Mirage's Sub-Plots |
|
Mystery: Someone has contacted the “new” Daniel Schaffer with a letter simply stating “Legends are something that are supposed to fade over time; be forgotten throughout the years. It's just tradition. You are breaking that tradition. I know the secrets you hide. I know. I've gotten revenge on the man who stole my life and now I will destroy what little of the legacy he has left behind. Knight will fall fast on this legend and Daniel Schaffer will finally be sent to the pages of forgotten history as it was destined!” Along with the letter came a package containing a gold ring. Daniel immediately recognized it as the wedding band the real Schaffer always wore in memoriam of his late wife. It was stained with blood. Daniel now must find out who wrote the letter and how he intends on “destroying the legacy”. The real Schaffer told no one about the switch and made sure it was done as secretly as possible. Someone has found out the truth and has to be the only one who knows it. If the truth is revealed, it will hold drastic consequences for Schaffer. But the loss of his new identity won't mean anything if he meets the same fate as his predecessor. |

Character Background |
|
Daniel was once known as Johnathon Knight, body guard and right-hand man to one of New York's most talented detectives, Daniel Schaffer, whose name had been infamous in the city's underground for well over fifty years. The real Schaffer was over seventy years old and aging poorly, no longer able to do the amazing detective work he'd done in his prime. He took on Knight as an unknowing apprentice, giving him the assumption he was to be Schaffer's muscle, protecting the old man from the many people who, undoubtedly, had a score to settle, while providing assistance with cases. While his name was infamous, his face was as much of a mystery as the man who it belonged to. As the years passed; people passed along with them. Many forgot what Daniel Schaffer looked like, how old he was and what he sounded like. Schaffer, still being as sharp as he ever was, knew that he could use his legend to his advantage by passing along the name to another detective who could do his work for him, using the name as “street cred” to get what he wanted and still maintain the respect of his predecessor. Daniel spent five years training Johnathon and teaching him all he knew about the business until recently when Daniel became very ill and told Knight that he'd been training him all along to follow in his footsteps. Knight had strength, charisma, street smarts and, most importantly, his youth and energy, which was so rapidly escaping Schaffer's grasp, and with Schaffer's contacts, teachings and his name, Knight has the potential to be a far greater Sleuth than Schaffer ever was. In the last few months, Knight had completely taken over for Schaffer; speaking with contacts, gathering clues and evidence for cases and “speaking with contacts”, which usually involved something Knight called “Persistent Persuasion”. (Translating to, roughly, “getting information by any means necessary”.) Knight took on the persona of Daniel Schaffer, going by the code name “Mirage”, representing the fact that he is, in fact, only an illusion and personification of the legend that the real Schaffer had created so many years ago. |

This usually means it can get worse. |
